I See Her There
The summer of 2016 was a difficult one. My grandmother lost her battle with cancer, and my mother became, in her words, an adult orphan. Though the days leading up to her passing were painful, it was hard for me to feel sad afterwards. Every bit of my grandmother is in my mother—her love of music, her passion for traveling, her addiction to reading—and every bit of my mother is in me. So I’ve never really felt my grandmother’s absence. She is written on my face and in my heart, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
People go, but they are not gone forever.
This song is for you, Nanny. And it’s for you, Mom.
